Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — In preparation for the upcoming rainy season, municipal officials have installed additional absorption wells to help prevent street flooding, something that has been a problem in previous years.
The Government of Solidarity has installed another 59 absorption wells around municipality streets as part of the Municipal Development Plan 2016-2018. William Conrado Alarcón, General Director of Infrastructure Urban Development and Environment, said that officials are keeping up with the cleaning of the wells to help reduce flooding in the upcoming months.
“We continue to work to cover 100 percent of the infrastructure in order to reduce the possibility of flooding that is detrimental to citizens during the rainy seasons.” This is the precise instruction of the municipal president, he said, adding that the construction of the wells was in response to citizen requests through ¡Que hable Solidaridad! and private meetings.
Approximately 7.6 million peso was invested in adding the new wells in the communities of Loltun, Balam Tun, Privanza del Mar, Bosque Real, Gonzalo Guerrero, Quintas del Carmen, Mundo Hábitat and Cataluña.
“They are resources of the citizens through taxes that return to the citizens in quality work that provide answers to real problems,” he said. He added that other preventative measures such as street cleaning and tree pruning are done on a daily basis in coordination with CFE to avoid the blockage of the wells.
