Dozens arrested for failing to comply with Cozumel virus restrictions

Cozumel, Q.R. — Municipal police officers detained about 50 people over the weekend for not respecting the public mobilization restrictions by City Council as a preventive measure to COVID-19.

During the police Maximum Presence Operation, the Director of Public Security, Guido Rosas López, reported that they traveled Cozumel streets with the support of 49 elements, 14 units and five motor patrols, calling on citizens to go home and arresting those who failed to comply.

Rosas López says nearly 50 people were taken into police custody for failing to comply with Article 163, section XLIX of the Bando de Policía y Buen Gobierno. Police inspected not only island streets, but also wharf and beach areas as well as central locations.
