Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — UPDATED: The dismembered body of a man was found in a bag Monday in the Eijdal Sur neighborhood of Playa del Carmen.
During the early morning hours, Emergency 911 was alerted to the finding of a lifeless body near the Centro Maya shopping plaza.
According to preliminary information, a passing neighbor discovered the bag while out walking around 9:00 a.m.on the corner of Kim and Amanecer streets in a residential area in the southern part of Playa del Carmen.
Police arrived to find the bag contained a dismembered body. The area was tapped off while police began investigating. Neighbors say they did not hear or see anything unusual. Unofficial information says the body was that of a male with several tattoos on his arms.
There was no official identification or approximate age of the victim given. The bagged body was taken to the Forensic Medical Service for an autopsy.
UPDATE: Police say the wife of the victim has identified the deceased as her husband, a 42-year-old man originally from Huimanguillo, Tabasco. They were living in Playa del Carmen where she says, her husband worked as a mechanic.
