Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco — Environmental officers in Puerto Vallarta say a dolphin was found deceased after its fin became caught in a buoy.
The Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection report responding to the stranding of a dead bottlenose dolphin found at El Holli Beach in the Municipality of Puerto Vallarta in Jalisco.
Personnel say they received a report from members of the Bay Area Guardian Participatory Environmental Monitoring Committee, who reported the body of a dolphin was adrift and stuck in one of the buoys on a beach known as El Holli in front of the Sheraton Hotel.
In coordination with Civil Protection and the Department of Ecology of Puerto Vallarta, officers recovered the body of the dead dolphin. During the recovery, they observed that the dolphin had an anchor attached to the caudal fin, which caused it to get stuck in the buoys.
The bottlenose dolphin is listed in the NOM-059-SEMARNAT under the status of special protection.
