Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A whale that was discovered washed up along a shore on Isla Mujeres last week has been pulled out to sea.
Director of Ecology and Environment, Carlos Barranco García, said that the dead whale was in an advanced state of decomposition which prevented them from determining its cause of death.
Barranco García noted that due to the size of the whale, which was deemed to be between one and one-and-a-half tonnes, was pulled out to sea for natural decomposition with help from Profepa and municipal authorities.
The whale, which was found on the beach of Playa Mujeres, was believed to be a Pilot whale.
