Cozumel, Q.R. – To help promote the island as a wedding and honeymoon destination, more than 40 tourism-related officials from varying parts of Mexico visited Cozumel.
The tourism officials were welcomed by Mayor Fredy Marrufo Martin, who ensured his guests had a comfortable stay on the island.
They toured the island to learn about its history, natural wealth and local services. They also came to learn about the island’s ecotourism, diving, culture and sports.
Tourism officials from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Tuxtla, Gutierrez, Chiapas, Mexico City, Campeche and Yucatan took part in exploring the island. While there, they also took part in recreation activities and enjoyed the island’s natural relaxing beauty. As well, they were treated to dinner at the Hotel Playa Azul, where they had a conference with a promotional video of Cozumel.
Castelán Juan Gonzalez, director of Tourism Cozumel, reported that the tour helped better inform those wanting to promote Cozumel as a tourist destination, especially to those looking for a unique place to get married or celebrate a honeymoon.
“This sector is important because Cozumel is ideal for this type of market where people are looking for a place with an optimal natural environment for organizing weddings or just a quiet and relaxing honeymoon” said Juan Gonzalez.
Cozumel is one of the largest and most populated islands in Mexico. It is the largest island in Mexico’s Caribbean but the third largest in the country behind Tiburón Island and Isla Ángel de la Guarda.
