Cancun, Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Heavy thunderstorms and cool temperatures are expected to enter the Cancun-Riviera Maya region this weekend.
Adrián Martínez Ortega, head of the State Coordination of Civil Protection, says that rain and cool temperatures are expected in a large part of the state due to the presence of the Cold Front Number 8.
The entry of tropical maritime air with variable moisture content from the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea is provoking temperate to cool temperatures during the night and into the early morning hours.
Clouds and rain showers accompanied by scattered electrical activity is expected for the peninsular region and the state of Quintana Roo. Servicio Meteorológico Nacional says between 30 and 60 mm of rain is likely for various parts of the state including Cancun and Riviera Maya.
Cold Front No. 8 and a Low Pressure Channel, both located along the southern portions of the Gulf of Mexico and the Yucatan Peninsula, continue to move slowly east. The systems are bringing cooler air, wind and rains in the north and the northwest.
For Cancun and Riviera Maya, heavy rains are expected at times, especially during the course of the afternoon. The forecast is calling for scattered thunderstorms with winds north and northwest from 25 to 35 kph., with strong gusts.
