Cancun, Riviera Maya — The cold air mass that has blanketed the entire Yucatan Region since Friday night will continue to bring cool nighttime temperatures.
While nighttime readings have recovered slightly, the Servicio Meteorológico Nacional says the cold air is not ready to leave the area just yet. They say the system causing the cool temperatures is expected to continue along the Yucatan coast as well as along the coast of the states of Quintana Roo and Campeche.
Although day time temperatures remain seasonably warm, the evenings and nights will continue to turn cool with values of between 14 to 19 degrees Celsius. They report that the high pressure system, which is located over the Gulf of Mexico, is slowly moving south-southeast, driving the cold polar air toward the Yucatan Peninsula. The system, when combined with the high humidity, creates a cold thermal sensation.
The dominance of the high pressure system over the northern portion of the Yucatan Peninsula will see clear skies with scattered clouds and low probability of rain during the day for the northeast of the Yucatan and northern Quintana Roo.
The Servicio Meteorológico Nacional reports that while Cold Front #15 continues to bring cool air, daytime temperatures for the Cancun, Riviera Maya region will rebound to seasonal readings of around 29 C.
