Cool air and thunderstorms forecast for much of Mexico

The arrival of Cold Front 24 will bring with it cool air and moisture for many parts of Mexico over the coming days.

Rain and Thunderstorms

Over the next few days, a range of thunderstorms are forecast for the Yucatan Peninsula, says the National Meteorological Service (SMN).

Beginning Wednesday, intense storms are expected in the east and southeast along the Yucatan Peninsula, Isthmus and Gulf of Tehuantepec.

The system will also bring rains with torrential storms to areas of Veracruz as well as regions of Oaxaca, Chiapas, Tabasco and Puebla.

Heavy rainfall is expected in areas of Campeche, Yucatan and Quintana Roo, while interval of showers are forecast for Nuevo Leon, Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosi, Aguascalientes, Zacatecas, Jalisco, Michoacan, Guerrero, Guanajuato, Queretaro, Hidalgo, Tlaxcala, State of Mexico and Mexico City.

Wind gusts greater than 70 km/h are will accompany the rains for the coast of Veracruz, and greater than 60 km/h on the coast of Tamaulipas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatan and Quintana Roo.

Cold Air and Cool Temperatures

Temperatures below -5 degrees Celsius are estimated in mountainous regions of Sonora, Chihuahua Coahuila and Durango.

From -5 to 0 degrees Celsius in mountain areas of Baja California, Nuevo Leon, Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosi, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Jalisco, Guanajuato, State of Mexico Hidalgo, Tlaxcala, Puebla and Veracruz.

While in the Cordilleras of Querétaro, Mexico City, Michoacán and Oaxaca, values of 0 to 5 degrees Celsius are expected.
