Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — After paying a fine and establishing new protocols, the construction of a plaza at Puerto Morelos will continue.
The commercial plaza suffered a collapse in early August that claimed the life of two and left 14 injured. A failed structural calculation was said to be the likely cause of the accident.
Since then, the company responsible for the construction project has reportedly paid a fine of 300,000 peso that was issued by the Directorate of Civil Protection. New protocols have also been set for the company including better public security, improved worker safety and the demolition of the upper walls.
Director of Civil Protection, Guillermo Morales López, says that the first phase of the demolition is expected to begin soon that will see a rebuild of the second phase in order for the construction of the plaza to be finished.
