Company fined millions for Tajamar damage

Cancun, Q.R. – A local real estate company has been fine more than six million peso for the removal of vegetation from Malecon Cancún Tajamar.

The Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA) sanctioned the company Bi & Di Real Estate de México SA de CV for an amount of 6.6 million peso after finding it responsible for the illegal removal of forest vegetation of Malecon Cancún Tajamar.

This sanction was handed out when the developing company was unable to prove authorization for the Environmental Impact and Land Use Change issued by Semarnat.

Several inspections to various properties at Malecon Cancún Tajamar were made by PROFEPA where it was found that the area was devoid of vegetation and filled with stone material. Along with the 6.6 million peso fine, the Federal Environmental Responsibility Law ordered the repair of environmental damage caused by the real estate company along with vegetation restoration of the area.
