Colombian gang member arrested in Cancun for purse theft

Cancun, Q.R. — A man has been arrested in Cancun after allegedly robbing a woman who just finished using the bank.

The arrest took place around 3:40 p.m. Thursday after three people stopped a woman who had just came out of a bank in Malecon Las Americas. The woman said when she came out of the bank, her car had a flat tire. When she noticed the tire and got out of her car, a gray van pulled up.

Instead of helping her fix the flat, one man got out of the van and robbed her, taking her purse. A nearby traffic policeman saw the incident and hurried to the scene. While the van fled with the other two would-be thieves inside, one man was arrested.

The arrested man is said to be 38-year-old Giovanni M.M., a Colombian who is part of the Poncha Llantas gang. The man was held until municipal police arrived. He was transferred to the public ministry for processing. The woman was given back her stolen purse with all its contents.
