Civil Protection working day and night to drain Holbox streets

Holbox, Q.R. — Many areas around the island of Holbox are again experiencing pooled water due to the heavy rains that have inundated the region this week. While the entire Yucatan Peninsula was doused with rains from a passing system, Holbox felt the effects as personnel from Civil Protection made efforts to drain island streets.

The Director of Municipal Civil Protection, Alejandro Erosa Betancourt, said that personnel continue to work on draining the island, but their efforts have proven unsuccessful since the rains have not stopped.

Erosa Betancourt says Civil Protection elements have worked day and night to drain island roadways, but Mother Nature only arrives again to flood them with torrential downpours.

The region is expected to see rain relief starting this weekend.
