Playa del Carmen, Q.R. – Local civil protection personnel are already preparing for the upcoming hurricane season.
While their current focus is on the prevention of forest fires, the secretary of Solidaridad City Hall, Teresa Jiménez, says that civil protection personnel will also be reviewing possible shelters for the upcoming hurricane season.
Civil protection men and women are currently in the midst of season forest fire training, but will soon focus their efforts on verifying infrastructures of schools, churches and other buildings registered as shelters. Within the next 60 days, the officials that make up Civil Protection will begin training for emergency weather situations.
Hurricane season for the Cancun-Riviera Maya region begins in June and ends in November.
