Child dies after falling four floors from Cancun vacation property

Cancun, Q.R. — A four-year-old child has died after falling from the fourth floor of a Cancun vacation property.

The accident occurred Friday at 8:10 a.m. after emergency personnel received notice of a small child falling. The little girl, who was visiting the city with her mother, apparently fell from the balcony of the Villas Marlin vacation rental complex behind Plaza Kukulcán in the Cancun Hotel Zone.

Reports say the family, who were visiting from Belgium, were getting ready inside their vacation rental to go for a walk when another child ran inside, telling his mother that the girl had fallen. The mother ran outside to where her daughter fell and called emergency help.

The girl, Sofia, was rushed to Galenia Hospital in Cancun where she arrived at 8:30 a.m. and was reportedly pronounced at 8:50 a.m. due to severe head trauma.

Ana N, the 47-year-old mother, told police that they had been in Cancun on vacation for only a few days and that they were about to leave the rental property to explore the city.
