Chetumal healthcare workers threaten 48-hour strike if Covid bonuses not paid

Chetumal, Q.R. — Dozens of healthcare workers from the General Hospital of Chetumal demonstrated outside the building, requesting their bonus incentive for working directly with Coronavirus patients.

The more than 50 hospital workers were demanding their 36,000 peso pay cheque that was offered by the federation for those who worked directly against COVID-19. Hospital workers said that other institutions including ISSSTE and IMSS have already paid those bonuses to workers who provided care to Coronavirus patients.

The health workers pointed out that for several months, the secretary of health had been sent letters to attend to this complaint, however, hospital staff were informed that there were no resources to pay the “covid bonus”.

Nurses and doctors from the Chetumal General Hospital carried out a work stoppage that began at 7:00 a.m. Wednesday, threatening a 48-hour strike in the event they are not paid.
