CFE workers discover several clandestine connections in Isla Mujeres businesses

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Workers from the Federal Electricity Commission say they have discovered several clandestine electrical connections on the island of Isla Mujeres, adding they do not know how many are out there.

A review by workers of the Federal Electricity Commission led to a surprise when they uncovered several clandestine connections which have resulted in a service suspension and legal action. So far, CFE says they have uncovered at least three illegal electrical connections in only one square of the city.

A crew of 30 CFE members from Cancun arrived on the island to perform meter revisions. It was during the reviews that officials discovered the electrical thefts.

“We are integrally doing these services revisions at no cost to the client and thus, be able to provide better care,” said a CFE spokesperson adding that this type of operation is also intended to find clandestine connections, which is a problem they are aware of.
