Central Playa del Carmen store consumed by flames for second time in three months

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A fire in central Playa del Carmen has consumed a business that was undergoing renovations from a previous fire three months earlier. El Armario, in the city’s center shopping area, was burned in its entirety after it caught fire early Tuesday morning.

Firemen who responded to the 1:00 a.m. call experienced a pump failure that resulted in low water pressure during the extinguishing process, however, they were able to control the fire and douse remaining flames with buckets. There were no reports of injuries.

The clothing store was in the process of rebuilding after it was destroyed in a fire October 23. While an official cause of the fire remains undetermined, this latest fire is believed to be the result of arson.
