Carnival Playa del Carmen draws more than 100,000

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — More than 100,000 people took in Carnival 2018 in Playa del Carmen as the week long event came to a close.

This year’s theme, Passion for Playa del Carmen, drew record crowds as the annual festival continues to grow in both events and spectators. The four main parades took place along the city’s famous Fifth Avenue where dancers, musicians and parade floats made their way through the crowded streets.

Around town, dozens of community events were planned, drawing record numbers in areas such as Gonzalo Guerrero and 28 de Julio, Bosque Real, Galaxia del Carmen I y II, Misión del Carmen, Santa Fe, Toscana and Villamar I and II.

Carnival celebrations included almost 1,000 dancers and musicians, among them a group from Older Adults and Persons with Disabilities.

The group was joined by Chinelos Fenix Drum & Bugle Corps and young musicians from Cuautla, Morelos who came to Playa del Carmen to participate in Carnival. Musicians and dancers of the Samba Maya Cultural Center also put on a spectacular performance at Parque Fundadores.

Passion for Playa del Carmen hosted numerous musical groups including Los Tucanes de Tijuana, Ha Ash and Nelzon Kanzela, among many others.

Carnival Cancun, Carnival Playa del Carmen and Cozumel Carnival takes place each year during the month of February and is set to begin the week before Fat Tuesday or Mardi-Gras.
