Playa del Carmen, Q.R. – Carnaval Playa del Carmen has been a huge success as the 2017 “Union of Cultures” wraps up for another year.
Each year, local municipalities host their own carnival, an event that is similar to Mardi Gras in timing and that it can be traced back hundreds of years. In the Cancun, Riviera Maya region, the purpose of Carnaval is to promote the existence of family and community through the cultural richness and characteristics of the local society.
Cristina Torres Gómez, municipal president says that, “Solidaridad is a municipality full of people from different places in Mexico and the world who are willing to give their best to have a Carnival for the people of Playa del Carmen to enjoy.”
The event lasts a week and includes large colorful floats, dancing, live music, costumes, food and the traditional coronation of Carnaval King and Queen.
This year, Carnaval Playa del Carmen and Carnaval Cancun were held from Feb. 22 to 28. Carnaval Cozumel runs Feb. 22 to March 1
