Cancun, Q.R. – The state of Quintana Roo walked away from the recent World Travel Awards in London, England this year with three new distinctions.
State governor, Roberto Borge Angulo, accepted three new awards given to Cancun on behalf of World Travel Awards vice president, Jamie Taylor. This is the sixth consecutive year that Cancun has taken away such awards.
This year, the popular tourist destination was acknowledged for being the Best Beach Destination in Latin America, the Best Tourist Destination and for the Best Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.
Roberto Borge commented that, “These awards are to give us a further step forward in the international consolidation of Cancun as a global brand and are a source of great pride for the state. Again, Cancun won first place in the categories of Best Beach Destination, Best Tourist Destination and Best Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.”
This was the 36th year for the World Travel Market awards in London. Borge said it was satisfying for him to see the increasing interest in the British market for the state of Quintana Roo as a tourist destination, adding that British travelers to the state are some of the biggest spenders.
These awards were obtained with the full support of the President of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, and the Federal Secretary of Tourism, Enrique de la Madrid Cordero, who promote policies that favor the continuous improvement of the quality of service in the tourism industry.
The entire state was put on display in Britain as different tourist attractions for different areas, as well as the cultural heritage, were front and center. Borge said that every corner from Holbox to Isla Mujeres to Tulum and beyond were showcased. He added that after the awards, the state will have a greater presence across Europe, which will help attract more European tourists to the state and Mexico in general.
