Cancun teen looking to support family dies first day on job

Cancun, Q.R. — A 16-year-old minor was pronounced over the weekend after being electrocuted. The minor died Sunday afternoon while painting the roof of a private home.

Reports say the unidentified teen was hired to paint the outside of a home in the Magaly Achach neighborhood of Cancun. While on the roof, his wet roller made contact with the area’s high voltage electric wires.

A man who arrived at the site said that the young man had asked him for a job as his uncle, with whom he lived, recently died from COVID and he needed to work to support the family. The man already had one painter, but to offer support, he hired the teen.
