Cancun taxi drivers fired for alcohol-related offenses

Cancún, Q.R. — Two Cancun taxi drivers have been fired this week for alcohol-related driving offenses.

Earlier in the week, a taxi driver was videoed by a passenger from the back seat as his driver fell asleep at the wheel while stopped at a red light. The passenger posted the video to social media showing the driver nodding his head as he drove.

The second taxi driver was a man seen drinking a can of beer while behind the wheel. A passing motorist snapped a shot of the man who had a passenger in the front seat.

Both drivers were from the Andrés Quintana Roo taxi drivers union and were fired after the viral complaints became known. On their social media page, the Union of Taxi drivers Andrés Quintana Roo announced the automatic dismissal of the drivers.

In a statement they said, “The Union of Taxi Drivers maintains its commitment to society to act aggressively against operators under the slogan Zero Tolerance.”
