Cancun taxi driver dies after being shot by passenger

Cancun, Q.R. — A taxi driver has died after being shot while in his taxi outside a Cancun convenience store.

The shooting occurred Tuesday outside an OXXO when a taxi driver from the Andrés Quintana Roo union was shot in the back by a passenger. The taxi was parked outside an OXXO on Uxmal Avenue and Yaxchilán in Supermanzana 23 when the shooting occurred.

Emergency 911 recieved the call at 5:45 p.m. that someone had been injured by firearm.

Paramedics arrived and confirmed that it was a taxi driver and that he had received a bullet in the back. He was transferred to the IMSS of Coba where he died from his injuries.

Reports say the driver had taken two men to the store. When one got out, the second man in the back seat shot him in the back. Inside the taxi, police found one 9 mm casing.

The deceased has been identified as 34-year-old Miguel N of Cancun. The State Attorney General’s Office says the two men escaped and there have not yet been any arrests.
