Cancun, Riviera Maya hosting nearly a million for Easter

Cancun, Q.R. — The Ministry of Tourism says that nearly a million visitors have arrived throughout the state for the Easter holidays and that the figures are an increase over last year.

Hundreds of thousands of national and foreign visitors continue to arrive to Cancun and Riviera Maya for Easter holidays. According to the Ministry of Tourism, around one million visitors are in the 11 municipalities of the state, a figure 5 percent higher compared to last year.

The state has nearly 100,000 rooms across the 1,034 combined hotels. According to Televisa News, hotels across the state are reporting an average 90 percent occupancy with global visitors taking in the sun and sand along the regions 78 public beaches and 18 archaeological zones.

“I come from Madrid and we’re staying until Sunday but we want to stay for a whole month,” said Cristina, a visitor from Spain.

“Excellent, very nice people, I love how Mexicans are, very attentive very warm,” said Claudia Esponda, a tourist from Argentina.

“Very good, wonderful, spectacular, wonderful the beach, wonderful place,” said Cinthy Galvez, a tourist from Chile.

According to their statistics, Playa del Carmen-Riviera Maya, as well as Cancun and Mahahual are the most visited destinations during this Easter holiday season. With the mass increase in visitors, Playa del Carmen city officials have increased security.

“I insist on the monitoring and surveillance mechanisms for tourists and for nationals and for people who live here. We have a police presence. We have patrol. We have revisions, “said Cristina Torres, municipal president of Solidaridad.

In preparation of the visiting crowds, the region also implemented the Green Angel road side assistance for national and international visitors as well as provided codes of conduct to the young spring break crowds in Cancun.
