Cancun ranks as one of most expensive for summer vacation

Cancun, Q.R. – Cancun has been rated as one of the most expensive international cities in which to spend summer vacation.

A recent survey by TripAdvisor revealed the top 10 destinations for US travelers based on booking interest. The survey took into consideration a one-week vacation that included airfare, hotel, meals and tours.

Brooke Ferencsik, senior director of communications for TripAdvisor says, “A recent TripAdvisor survey found that 88 percent of U.S. respondents are planning to vacation this summer, up six percent from those who took a summer trip last year.

“According to booking interest on TripAdvisor, the top 10 destinations for U.S. travelers this summer are a split between domestic and international destinations,” she added.

Of the most expensive international cities, Cancun came in second behind New York with an average nightly summer hotel rate of $329 USD, compared to New York City at $369. London, UK took third with average hotel rates of $268 and Toyko, Japan averaging  $267 USD per night.

TripAdvisor also highlighted the least expensive week to visit highly-rated popular attractions including Playa del Carmen. TripAdvisor says the best time to visit Playa del Carmen is between August 22 and 28 when visitors can save an average of 10 percent below summer peak prices. They added that the value hotel was La Pasion Hotel Boutique for an average nightly summer rate of $118 and that the top attraction was Cenote Chaak Tun where tours start at $30 per person.
