Cancun, Q.R. – Cancun was successfully awarded with all its Blue Flag certificated beaches as evaluators find facilities acceptable.
The municipality of Benito Juarez has been granted Blue Flag status again this year for a number of its beaches. Recertification of the prestigious status requires an annual inspection by international evaluators.
In recent weeks, a series of inspections throughout the municipality have been conducted, resulting in beaches scoring 97 out of 100, the maximum achievable score.
“Cancun is a recognized brand in Mexico and throughout the world. Year by year, the record numbers of visitors and economic output are surpassed thanks mostly to the natural beauty in which the city council puts a lot of effort into maintaining the highest quality of standards,” said municipal president Remberto Estrada Barba.
Estrada Barba stressed that the evaluation shows that the public beaches of Cancun are extremely clean, have excellent facilities and strictly comply with the 33 criteria included in the international Blue Flag certification, which contributes to Cancun being a destination leader.
The international inspection includes an analysis of the sand, water quality, comprehensive services including lifeguards, parking lots, sanitary and other facilities such as care programs, to qualify for Blue Flag status.
