Cancun, Q.R. – Public transportation in Cancun has been increased even though municipal president of Benito Juárez, Remberto Estrada Barba was against the price-hike.
In a session of Extraordinaria, a price increase of 1.50 peso was approved. Prices to ride buses around the city of Cancun will cost 9.50 peso and to the Hotel Zone, the new price will be 12 peso.
Mayor Remberto Estrada said, “It must be pointed out that I have been rejecting the transportation price hike for the people of Benito Juarez for many months, since the first demand made by the group of concessionaires of the transporters, however, today we are complying with a ruling by the Chamber Constitutional of the Judiciary.”
He also said that they will continue working with groups to look for urban mobility strategies including road management and new infrastructure.
“The issue of mobility today surpasses us. We have grown exponentially in recent years, the number of cars, trucks has grown. The population has grown significantly, so we need to work on this issue, look for alternate options of transport,” he added.
The initial public transport increase suggested was 4 peso.
