Cancun public transport company once again, criminal target

Cancun, Q.R. — For the third time in a week, a Maya Caribe public transport unit has been the target of an attack. On Wednesday, armed men on a motorcycle pulled up beside the Cancun unit. After an exchange of words with the driver, they opened fire, hitting the outside of the unit.

The driver fled from behind the wheel and called for help. The incident happened at 4:30 p.m. while traveling along Avenida 20 de Noviembre. When it reached Villas Otoch Paraíso in SM 259, the motorcycle with two armed subjects appeared. After firing against the collectivo, they too, fled the scene.

Police arrived to process information and begin an investigation. Neighborhood witnesses were able to collaborate the driver’s account of the events. No injuries were reported and no arrests made.

It is the third armed attack against the company in a week. Earlier, two of the company’s public transport vehicles were set ablaze, one while the driver was inside. No one was hurt in either of those attacks.

There is no official word as to why the company is being targeted.
