Cancun policeman shot in patrol vehicle while at traffic light

Cancún, Q.R. — A Cancun policeman was shot and injured over the weekend when assailants fired at his vehicle.

Two policemen were fired at in Cancun while on duty in their police vehicles. According to the Municipal Secretary of Public Safety and Traffic, the patrol vehicle was stopped at a traffic light when gunmen opened fire before fleeing.

The driver of the patrol truck was shot and taken by his colleagues to hospital. The second policeman in the vehicle was not injured.

An official statement by Darwin Acosta, head of public safety, said the shot policeman is in stable condition and remains in hospital.

A search operation for the assailants yielded no arrests.
