Cancun, Q.R. — Police in the municipality of Benito Juárez will receive salary increases within the next few weeks, making them the highest paid in the state.
Cancun mayor Remberto Estrada Barba, says that municipal police salaries will be given accordingly beginning the first weeks of September.
“We are delivering results so today we comply with the approved salary for the police that will result in a better quality of life, which will ultimately have a positive impact on the entire population with professional police elements, constant training and more commitment,” he explained.
The raise is part of the Professional Career Service which will be managing and distributing the salary increases to accredited officers. The money, which amounts to 8.2 million peso, came from the Programa de Fortalecimiento para la Seguridad (Fortaseg), which is a subsidy granted to municipalities where they exercise the role of public security for the strengthening of security issues.
Salary leveling will be awarded to the elements by the amount of training and police career experience. On average, police officers will see a wage increase of about 7 percent, providing them with a monthly salary of nearly 13,000 peso.
In total, 1,055 police officers are on the Professional Career Service list to receive the wage increase. Once granted, this will make them the highest paid in the state.
