Cancun police arrest two for attempted extortion and threats with machetes

Cancun, Q.R. — Two men armed with machetes were arrested in Cancun Wednesday for attempted extortion. The pair were taken into police custody after a search located them several streets away still carrying the rusty knives.

The incident happened in SM 245 when a man hailed a passing police unit to explain that two men armed with machetes came to his home and demanded a payment of 10,000 peso per week. After providing a description of the men, police set out in search of them.

The men were located nearby, still armed with their machetes. Handcuffed and transferred to police facilities were 23-year-old José N and 26-yeare-old Victor N for attempted extortion and threats.
