Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun resident about to drive off got a surprise after finding a boa constrictor sleeping on the engine under the hood of his car.
Cancun firefighters were sent to a parking lot in the city after emergency 911 dispatched the call. The owner of the car was leaving work when he said he got in his car and was about to drive off when he noticed something strange about the hood of his vehicle.
The incident occurred at 10:30 a.m. behind the Galenia Hospital in Cancun where the man had parked. After getting out and lifting the hood, he discovered the sleeping boa.
Upon calling 911 for help, firefighters arrived on scene for an unusual rescue to remove the 2 1/2-meter boa from the man’s engine. Due to the type and size of snake, all security measures were in place when firemen began to remove it. The snake was placed in a cage and relocated back into the jungle.
The rescue team of firemen said that the snake was a beautiful female boa constrictor of 2 1/2 meters in length, a very common specimen in the jungles of Quintana Roo.
They also said that due to the consistent low temperatures, the female was likely seeking out a warm place to sleep and stumbled upon the warm engine of the car.
