Cancún, Q.R. — A man has died after hitting a electricity pole in Cancun while trying to flee police.
On Sunday afternoon, police were alerted to a robbery at the Coppel del Crucero store on Tulum Avenue in Cancun city center.
Responding to the call lead them to pursue a vehicle in which the robbers had fled. While in pursuit, the driver of the truck hit a Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) pole.
The accident was recorded at 1:00 p.m. Sunday at the corner of Jabin Street and Chichén Itzá Avenue in SM 23 when a pick-up truck rammed into the post. Due to excessive speed, the truck toppled the electric pole causing it to land on the bed of the truck.
The driver of the vehicle died, however, his passenger managed to escape on foot, apparently by running along the roofs of houses. He was not arrested.
