Cancun, Q.R. — A man hit by a public safety unit in Cancun last week has died from his injuries.
On Thursday, two men riding a red moto were hit by a public safety unit. The accident occurred at the intersection of La Costa and Cobá avenues after a public safety patrol ran a red light while escorting a police unit.
The Attorney General’s Office (FGE) reports that the motorcyclist died Friday at the General Hospital, one day after the accident. Ministerial authorities have reclassified the accident to culpable homicide after determining that the person responsible was the driver of the patrol, 29-year-old Carlos Damián N.
On Thursday, Carlos N was escorting a police unit that had detained two people for theft of a jewelry store. When crossing Cobá Avenue, he went through the red light without taking the necessary precautions, causing the accident.
The red moto, which with he collided, was carrying two, Julio N the driver and his passenger Alejandro N.
Julio N was transferred to the General Hospital emergency room with traumatic head injuries, while his passenger was taken to a different hospital suffering from a fractured ankle.
The municipal policeman remains in service.
