Cancun, Q.R. — Q.R. — A man has been arrested in Cancun after police locate a sub-machine gun in his vehicle.
The North Zone State Police of the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) reported that they have arrested a man for carrying a firearm. The detainee was placed at the disposition of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR).
According to the report, state and federal elements were conducting routine crime prevention searches in the area when they were alerted to shots fired in the region of 313 on Fresno Street in Cancun.
Neighbors who heard the gunfire called Emergency 911 who then alerted nearby police. When they reached the site on Fresno Street with Alcanfor, they found a car with State of Mexico plates traveling at excessive speed.
In a chase, police finally managed to stop the car. Upon inspection, they discovered that he was carrying a sub-machine-gun firearm that police say he pointed at one of them uttering insults and death threats.
The man got out of his car, arguing that he was an officer from a private security company. For this reason, police requested to see the legal carrying permit for the gun from the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), which the man was unable to produce.
He was arrested. Both the vehicle and weapon were confiscated.
