Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Of the five most sought-after destinations in Mexico for December, Cancun and Riviera Maya take three of those spots.
According to data provided by Grupo Expedia, the top five destinations in Mexico for the month of December are Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta, Cancun, Isla Mujeres and Riviera Maya.
Mario Ribera, Vice President Expedia Inc. Latin America says “The holiday season in Mexico always represents an exciting period, as it receives a large number of travelers, mainly from the US and Canadian markets.
“Expedia is proud to work with our hotel partners in Mexico to ensure that they are capitalizing on a large influx of travelers in the country. The winter season represents a valuable opportunity for our partners to use Expedia platforms, tools and strategies to increase visibility and reservations.
“The local market management team of Expedia is present to serve as support to hotel partners and thus be able to provide specific recommendations so that they can make the best navigation in this holiday season,” he said.
Data from the global travel website revealed that of those traveling to Mexico, 20 percent book at least 90 days ahead, while 30 percent hone in on last minute deals, booking their vacations about six days in advance.
Expedia travel data also shows that during the month of December, markets with the most expressed interest in Mexico travel (compared to the same month last year) is the United States with a 35 percent increase followed by the domestic market with an increase of 25 percent.
Canadians came in third with an increase of 10 percent.
In September, the Ministry of Tourism of Mexico launched a new global campaign entitled A World of its Own, highlighting the many holiday experiences offered by the country, inviting everyone to discover Mexico.
