Cancun increases security for summer break tourists

Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun security is being increased as the city gets ready for the summer travel season which is expected to begin over the coming days.

The Ministry of Public Security says they will be adding additional tourist police to Cancun streets to strengthen surveillance and crime prevention making Cancun a safe place to travel.

Head of Benito Juarez Public Security, Darwin Puc Asosta, said that they will also be carrying out coordinated work with elements of the fire brigade, federal police, the Navy and state police.

The coordinated efforts, he explained, will be to increase patrols in the areas of beaches and specific busy zones around the city.

The Directorate of Civil Protection will be focused on beach surveillance and increasing its workforce of lifeguards, eventually adding 15 elements to ensure tourists and locals enjoy a safe vacation.

Puc Asosta added that in the event of a tropical storm or hurricane, Civil Protection is prepared with an emergency plan to shelter and / or evacuate if necessary.

The city of Cancun is anticipating the arrival of tens of thousands of summer break domestic and international visitors from now until September.
