Cancun hotels report staff deficit of around 10 percent as tourism continues to recover

Cancun, Q.R. — Another job recruitment program is being set up since Cancun hotels remain short staffed. Eduardo Domínguez, executive vice president of the Cancun, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres Hotel Association estimated that the personnel deficit is around 10 percent.

While the lack of staff varies from one hotel to another, he says most are reporting the need for more workers.

“With the pandemic, hotel occupancy dropped a lot and many people went home, back to their places of origin. Different job fairs were implemented which has help with recovery, but there are still opportunity areas in the hotels,” he explained.

Dominguez says there are several job recruitment centres set up around the city of Cancun in hopes of filling these staffing voids.

Earlier this year, several large Cancun and Riviera Maya hotel chains recruited employees in other parts of Mexico, looking for staff to fill their job voids.
