Cancun construction truck overturns leaving 15 workers injured

Cancun, Q. R. — An accident in Cancun Thursday morning left 15 workers injured and a significant amount of material damage after a unit overturned. A construction dump truck, which was transporting workers in the back, overturned near the Malecón Tajamar.

Traffic police attending to the 7:30 a.m. accident indicated that the driver of the unit, who was carrying a total of 22 workers, lost control due to a combination of speed and wet road conditions.

The heavy unit slammed into a roadway divider, taking out two metal poles one of which was a traffic light and the other, a street light, before rolling onto its side. Fifteen of the 22 workers in the bed of the unit were left with injuries. The driver was also reported as injured.

Paramedics arrived on scene and transferred those who required further medical attention to Cancun hospitals.

One lane in each direction was blocked by the overturned truck and downed city poles. A tow truck was called to upright and remove the truck, which was transferred to the corral.
