Cancun city worker dies after being hit by speeding car

Cancún, Q.R. — A city worker from the Directorate of Public Services of Cancun died on Monday afternoon after being hit by a speeding car.

The city worker was patching holes along a stretch of roadway in Region 96 of Cancun when an oncoming car hit him. The accident happened around 5:30 p.m. Monday afternoon.

Police say the worker was using a machine to patch holes in the road along Andrés Quintana Roo Avenue when a speeding car ignored the orange work cones and hit the man. The impact of the hit was severe enough to throw the worker several meters.

Although paramedics were called, it is reported that he died instantly. The deceased has been identified as Jorge Alberto M.A. who was a worker with the city of Cancun.

The man driving the Chevy car, 33-year-old Eduardo Antonio S.G., was arrested by police and made available to the Public Prosecutor for culpable homicide.
