Cancun Airport greets 21 millionth passenger

Cancun, Q.R. – Officials at the Cancun International Airport were kept busy in December as the turnover of a new “millionth” passenger arrived.

Robert Evans (and family) was passenger 21 million through the Cancun International Airport over the holiday season. Mr. Evans, who is from Washington, said he was in the area for the second time, the first being for his honeymoon a few years earlier.

State governor, Carlos Joaquin Gonzalez, was on hand to greet the family and present them with the traditional gift-giving with of course, a local mariachi.

It was only 11 days earlier that passenger 20 million walked through the gate. Maria Graciela Gonzalez Guillen, who was also a repeat visitor, said she had come back to enjoy the beaches. Heather Knopp of Maine was passenger 19 million.

This year, the state will promote a new campaign, “Let Us Travel to Quintana Roo”, a campaign that will help both locals and visitors enjoy the region. The new campaign is part of the government of Quintana Roo Tourism Plan for 2017.
