Canadian woman “not feeling well’ dies on Cancun beach

Cancun, Q.R. — Authorities say a 50-year-old Canadian woman died Thursday afternoon in the Cancun Hotel Zone after telling her husband she was not feeling well.

In a statement, the prosecutor’s office announced the death, which happened at kilometer 16.5 of Boulevard Kukulcán in the hotel zone when the woman and her husband were swimming in a beach area.

Officials say the woman, 50-year-old Katherine G.M. of Canadian nationality, was swimming with her British husband, 49-year-old John S.M. when she began to not feel well. After helping her out of the water she collapsed. The husband, requesting assistance, was helped by an on-duty lifeguard who summoned a hotel doctor, however, they were unable to revive her.

She was pronounced at 12:46 p.m., having died from acute myocardial infarction. The woman and her husband arrived for vacation on the 17th of February and were set to leave Cancun on the 25th.

On Wednesday, a 57-year-old man from Britain collapsed and died of a heart attack outside a coffee shop in Playa del Carmen.
