Canadian man commits suicide in Cancun

Cancun, Q.R. – A Canadian man was found deceased in an abandoned building in Cancun on March 3 by a security guard.

The security guard, who worked for a nearby tire shop, reported seeing a man hanging from a staircase in an abandoned building located next to his work. The guard said he had left his work station to go for a break and headed to a nearby convenience store. He was gone about 30 minutes when he returned and saw the man had hung himself from the staircase.

Police were notified at 6:45 a.m. when they discovered the lifeless body of Jean François Boucchar, 46, of Canada. At the scene, they also found two backpacks and identification that belonged to the deceased.

The body was taken to the Forensic Medical Service for processing the exact cause of death, although it has been determined the cause was likely asphyxiation by hanging. The Attorney General of the State (PGJE) said that this was the fifth suicide so far this year.
