British Airways pilot strike affects Cancun flights

Cancun, Q.R. — A pilot strike by British Airways has forced the cancellation of nearly all its flights including those to Cancun. Executives from the Cancun International Airport have reported the cancellation of at least two London-Cancun flights due to the strike.

The two canceled flights included BA2203 London-Cancun as well as the BA2202 Cancun-London, both scheduled for Monday. Cancun airport executives from Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR) say that for now, the remaining scheduled flights are expected to arrive as planned. However, passengers flying British Airways are advised to check the status of their flights.

Nearly all British Airway flights have been canceled for both Monday and Tuesday while the British Airline Pilots Association (BALPA) attempts to work out a heated dispute over pay with the airline. The strike is set to last 48-hours, however, BALPA says they are planning another strike for September 27 since current negotiations show no signs of abating.

According to reports, nearly 200,000 passengers were scheduled to travel on September 9 and 10 via British Airways.
