Playa del Carmen, Q.R. – The work of repaving the overpass area in Playa del Carmen has been suspended with unfavorable weather being blamed for the delays.
The Secretariat of Communications and Transportation (SCT) has reported recent rains as the cause for delays in the repaving of the overpass. SCT says they need full sunshine for optimum drying time for any newly laid pavement.
Work on the north-south lanes began September 3 and was expected to take about 20 days, however only the top of the overpass has been resurfaced. Crews still need to repave the bottom portion of the lanes. According to SCT, only about 35 percent of the work has been completed so far.
Eddie Flores Serrano, director of Public Works, said that part of the 12 million peso project of SCT is to also repair the expansion joints, change the anti-reflective mesh as well as repave the approximate 5 kilometers of bridge.
SCT says that once they have adequate weather conditions, it will take about 10 days to complete the work. In the meantime, the job has been suspended without any set date for resumption.
