Body of young Cancun woman found Sunday identified

Cancun, Q.R. — The beating and alledged rape of a young woman found in a vacant lot in Cancun over the weekend has sparked outrage by local authorities.

The Consultative Council of the Human Rights Commission of the State of Quintana Roo has strongly condemned the Femicide of a 16-year-old girl who was found deceased in Cancun Sunday.

“We are outraged that the rights and freedoms of children and adolescents are threatened, violating the present and future of our society,” said the agency in a statement.

The council is demanding that the murder not go unpunished and for authorities to carry out the investigations that lead to the arrest of the perpetrators and punish them in accordance with the law.

According to witness statements, the young woman left her home at 11:00 p.m. Saturday night to attend a party. According to a security guard, she was last seen at 1:30 a.m. in the company of two men, one of whom has since been arrested.

The young woman has been identified as 16-year-old Amairani N. Her half-naked, beaten body was discovered 10:30 Sunday morning by neighbors near the Los Gemelos park in Cancun’s 227 region.
