Body of Tamaulipas woman attacked by crocodile recovered

Tampico, Tamaulipas — The body of a woman who was attacked by a crocodile has been recovered. The attack happened Monday evening along a lagoon shore while the woman was reportadly washing clothes.

The woman, who is said to be around 50 years of age, was known locally as a street person. On Monday around 7:00 p.m., the woman made her way to the edge of the Laguna del Carpintero in Tampico, Tamaulipas where she was washing clothes when she was grabbed by the reptile.

Numerous area residents witnessed the attack. Videos show the large crocodile coasting through lagoon waters with the deceased woman in its jaws. Firemen and Civil Protection were called to the site where they waited for the reptile to swim toward land.

Once close, they attempted to use ropes to pull the 3-meter croc to land. Authorities were on scene for more than an hour trying to capture the crocodile so they could remove the body from its mouth. Authorities were eventually successful in capturing both the reptile and recovering the woman.

Agents from the Tampico Transit Secretariat, elements of the State Police, as well as personnel from the Investigative Police of the Tamaulipas Attorney General’s Office, came to order the removal and transfer of the body.

According to Profepa authorities, the crocodile measured approximately 3 meters in length and weighed between 400 and 500 kilos. They said it was easy for the crocodile to catch the woman and take her underwater, where they said, she died by drowning.
