Chetumal, Q.R. — The body of a man found Wednesday in Chetumal has been identified as a political activist and former government employee. The man was identified by police responding to the case after the report of a bagged body was made by a passerby Wednesday morning.
Authorities were on site at the Álvaro Obregón extension where the body of an adult male was located inside wrapped garbage bags. The man is reported to be Herminio Ángel N, a Frente Cívico Quintanarroense activist who was also a government employee during the Roberto Borge administration.
According to preliminary information, the body had firearm injuries.
In an statement, the Quintanarroense Civic Front condemned the murder and demanded that the State Attorney General’s Office carry out investigations to find those responsible.
They pointed out that “this unfortunate event tells us that there is still much to do in terms of security in Quintana Roo. Our state needs to strengthen crime prevention actions as well as the administration of justice,” they said.
