Body discovered off shores of Cancun at Isla Blanca

Cancún, Q. R. — The body of a man was discovered Thursday morning floating in the sea just off the shores of Cancun.

Bound and with traces of torture, the body of an executed man was found on Isla Blanca by passing fishermen who called Emergency 911. They said they saw the body around 9:15 a.m. at the edge of the lagoon near the cocktail bar, Acapulquito.

Workers from the bar said the body was put there sometime in the morning and at first, was thought to be floating garbage until the fishermen arrived and discovered it was a man.

Municipal, state and federal police were called in where on arrival, they found the body of a man who was bound hands and feet with tape. Police suspect the man was shot then thrown into the water.

He has not been identified. Experts of the State Attorney General’s Office took charge lifting the body for the Forensic Medical Service where an autopsy will be preformed.

Isla Blanca, where the body was found, is part of the Isla Mujeres continental mainland zone.

The secretary of State Public Safety, Rodolfo del Angel Campos says that due to the increased criminal activity in the area, an additional 20 state police have been assigned to provide more patrols.
